1,000 UKRAINIAN PATIENTS ARE SENT TO HOSPITALS IN EUROPE

By using its Civil Protection Mechanism, the EU has so far successfully organised 1,000 medical evacuations of Ukrainian patients to give them specialised care in hospitals throughout Europe.

Local hospitals are having trouble keeping up with demand as the number of injured persons in Ukraine rises daily. Due to the significant influx of people, Poland, Moldova, and Slovakia have simultaneously asked their respective nations for assistance with medical evacuation (MEDEVAC) operations. Since March 11th, the EU has organised patient transfers to other European nations with sufficient hospital capacity to ease pressure on regional hospitals.

Germany, France, Ireland, Italy, Denmark, Sweden, Romania, Luxembourg, Belgium, Spain, Portugal, the Netherlands, Austria, Norway, Lithuania, Finland, Poland, and the Czech Republic are among the 18 nations in which the patients have been sent. Two patients were sent to the Czech Republic on August 3 and 15 patients were evacuated to Germany, four to the Netherlands, and two to Norway on August 4.

Janez Lennar, the commissioner for crisis management, stated: "The unlawful Russian war in Ukraine is straining Ukraine's health services to the breaking point. The EU has expanded its operations to assist Ukraine in meeting the nation's soaring medical demands. We are organising medical evacuations in addition to supplying medications and medical supplies to Ukraine through our Civil Protection Mechanism. Hospitals in 18 European nations have received 1,000 Ukrainian patients. I want to express my gratitude to those nations who are taking in Ukrainian patients at this crucial time. Unity within the EU saves lives.

Stella Kyriakides, the European Commission's commissioner for health and food safety, stated: "The EU has been working relentlessly to defend Ukraine and its people in the face of Russia's horrific military aggression from day one. To help with this, the EU Civil Protection Mechanism has made it possible for patients who require urgent medical attention to obtain it in hospitals across the EU, relieving pressure on the neighbouring nations' healthcare systems.
