COLLABORATING TO ENCOURAGE SELF-HEALTH MANAGEMENT IN APAC

Benedict Tan, a speaker at the HIMSS22 Asia-Pacific Conference in Bali this year, claims that population-level self-health management is only feasible if the entire health ecosystem pools its resources and efforts.

Tan is SingHealth's Chief Data Officer and Group Chief Digital Strategy Officer. SingHealth is Singapore's largest public healthcare cluster.

In his futuristic vision, every patient will be given the tools they need to take charge of their health thanks to digital technologies.

According to him, this is gradually becoming a reality in the current era of Healthcare 4.0, which has combined both digital and non-digital technology.

I am optimistic that all we need to accomplish this is to concentrate our efforts and resources together, he continues, "as we have seen from how the healthcare industry changed fast and effectively during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Since getting his first employment at Singapore's National Computer Board, where he was later assigned to a position at the Ministry of Health, Tan has worked in the healthcare IT industry (MOH).

Tan is enthusiastic about anything related to health IT, from ensuring that his coworkers' laptops and IT networks are up and running to building Artificial Intelligence (AI) solutions that allow for rapid and precise patient diagnosis.

Providing the appropriate IT tools and solutions to healthcare workers so they can treat patients and save lives, he adds, is equally vital to him. "Some may not perceive the significance behind the boring and seemingly basic IT jobs, but they are equally important to me."

Tan has worked on several significant health IT projects throughout his career, including the evaluation and simplification of the civil service benefit claims system and the rollout of an RFID-based bed management system for Singapore General Hospital.

To completely evaluate and comprehend the processes that span agencies and departments with the goal of simplification and streamlining them with digital technology, both involved engagement with numerous important stakeholders.
