INTERNATIONAL DRUG ENFORCEMENT CONFERENCE CONTINUES TO STRIVE AGAINST DRUG TRAFFICKING

 

To combat drug trafficking, this week, a discussion was held between law enforcement agents along with the authorities of twenty-one other nations. This discussion revolved around how to curb drug trafficking in the region. It also highlighted how precursor chemicals contribute to the manufacture of illegal substances.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, In Bali, an Indonesia province, the Far East Regional Working Group Targeting Workshop was attended by the Narcotics Control Board secretary-general, Wichai Chaimongkol, and the Narcotic Intelligence, Narcotics Suppression Bureau Commander Poll Maj Gen Wiwat Leelakhet.

The Far East Regional Working Group Targeting Workshop is a contribution of the International Drug Enforcement Conference (IDEC), an event managed by the Drug Enforcement Administration’s regional director, John P Scott, under the United States Department of Justice.

During the workshop, Mr. Wichai Chaimongkol stated that since the year 1983, to fight against drug trafficking, annual conferences have been held by the International Drug Enforcement Conference for countries in the region. He further added, about the legal distribution of industrial, medicinal, and agricultural substances used for producing illegal drugs, that the conference allowed countries the opportunity to provide investigation data that could be used to suppress money laundering, the use of precursor chemicals, and transnational crimes.
