REPORT: 15 AUSTRALIAN PLAYERS WERE OFFERED $500,000 TO FOREGO THE BBL AND PLAY IN THE UAE LEAGUE

The Big Bash League (BBL), whose dates overlap, has reportedly offered 15 elite Australian players AUD 700,000 offers to leave it. This has caused significant stress within Cricket Australia (CAranks. )'s It will be very difficult for Australian players to compete in both games since the Big Bash League will take place from December 13 to February 4 and the inaugural ILT20 will take place from January 6 to February 12.

Up to 15 Australian players have reportedly received contracts worth up to AUD 700,000 per year to leave the Big Bash League and compete in the UAE Twenty20 event in January, according to a story in the Sydney Morning Herald. Under their current central contracts, the majority of the top Australian athletes are not required to participate in the BBL, and Warner hasn't played in a single season since 2014.

D'arcy Short received the biggest draft-related payout in the BBL to date of $258,000 (AUD 370,000), which is much less than the sums awarded to prominent Australian players in the IPL.

The BBL will need to redesign its wage structure to retain the finest in the industry, though, as Indian IPL owners have invested in the UAE and CSA T20 leagues.

The extent of the attempted raid on Australian players "goes much beyond the possibility of losing one player - David Warner - to the UAE because he does not have a BBL deal," top cricket insiders told Australian newspapers "The Age" and "The Sydney Morning Herald." Additionally, the newspaper reported that "UAE contract sizes so far above and beyond what has been on offer in the BBL have placed Cricket Australia and the Australian Cricketers Association under pressure to reassure players that they are not falling behind the rest of the world by remaining loyal to the game in this country." Warner won't be able to accept the ILT20 offer, though, because CA is eager to sign a hefty one-time contract with him to maintain the lustre and calibre of the BBL.
