DUE TO COVID 19 CONFLICTS US HALTS CHINESE AIR FLIGHTS

 In response to Beijing's suspension of American carriers' flights, the US government is halting 26 flights by Chinese airlines from the US to China due to a dispute over anti-virus regulations. In a system that mandates airlines to cancel flights if customers test positive for Covid-19, the Department of Transportation on Thursday claimed Beijing had broken the terms of an air travel agreement and punished carriers unfairly.

According to the Department of Transportation, US authorities have halted 19 flights by Chinese companies from Los Angeles, as well as seven flights by Air China Ltd. from New York City.

In accordance with Beijing's "circuit-breaker" mechanism, it was stated that this was equivalent to the amount of flights that United Airlines, American Airlines, and Delta Air Lines were compelled to cancel.

While other nations are adjusting to living with the disease, the "zero Covid" approach of the ruling Communist Party seeks to prevent the virus from entering China. This has reduced the number of cases while causing disruptions in travel, production, and commerce. Beijing is relaxing travel restrictions, but the majority of foreigners are still prohibited from entering China.

Before August 7, a carrier had the option of suspending a flight for two weeks or limiting the number of passengers it could carry to 40% of the maximum if up to nine people on it tested positive.

According to the report, starting on August 7, airlines must cancel a flight if 4% of its passengers have tested positive for drugs.

The regulator expressed dissatisfaction that airlines bear "undue liability" for travellers who test negative before boarding but positive after landing in China.

According to the US statement, China's measures are "predicated on factors totally beyond the carriers' control."
