GAIL AIMS TO HAVE NET-ZERO CARBON EMISSIONS BY 2040: ACCORDING TO PRESIDENT MANOJ JAIN
According to chairman Manoj Jain they have set a advance goal by other state-owned companies that the largest gas company in India, GAIL NSE 1.43% (India), plans to have net-zero carbon emissions from its operations by 2040.
In comparison with other countries like U.S, China, European Union India stands 4th largest carbon dioxide emitter. Although India has pledged to reduce emission by 2070.But Gail’s have pledged to reduce by 2040.
GAIL "is committed to decreasing its carbon footprint by diversifying into the renewable energy market," Jain said during the company's annual shareholders meeting.
Not putting more greenhouse gases into the environment is the first step taken toward becoming net zero, or carbon neutral.
"GAIL has conducted a rigorous investigation on science-based net-zero ambition and expects to achieve a 100% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions and a 35% reduction in Scope 3 emissions by 2040," according to the statement, "in keeping with India's objective to realize net zero by 2070."
The goal of the investment, which will cost Rs 2 lakh crore, is for Indian Oil Corporation to become carbon neutral in its operations by 2046.
Scope 1, 2 and 3 are ways to group the many types of carbon emissions a business produces via its own activities and wider value chain.
In contrast to Scope 1 emissions, which are the direct greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from sources that are under an organization's control or ownership, Scope 2 emissions are the indirect greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions associated with the purchase of power, steam, heat, or cooling
In Madhya Pradesh's Vijaipur, GAIL is constructing a 4.3-ton per day green hydrogen manufacturing facility.
