IN THE EVENT OF A POWER DEFICIT, GERMANY WILL MAINTAIN TWO NUCLEAR POWER FACILITIES ON STANDBY

Despite its plan to phase out the power source by the end of this year, officials said on Monday that Germany will keep two nuclear power facilities on reserve until next spring to avoid a lack of energy.

The administration claimed that the summer droughts, French nuclear power issues, and the difficult energy market environment amid Russia's war in Ukraine were contributing factors to the stress test.

Although doubtful, it came to the conclusion that they "cannot totally be ruled out."

Germany has a high level of energy supply security, according to a statement on the government website from Robert Habeck, minister of finance and environment protection.

He stated that the administration was making every effort to prevent a gas shortage because of the tension produced by the conflict in Ukraine.

Crisis situations and extreme events are still quite improbable, according to Habeck, who reiterated this in the statement.

He stated that Germany would continue to phase out nuclear power, with just Isar 2 and Neckarwestheim remaining operational through the winter of 2022–2033.

Habeck, a former co-leader of the anti-nuclear German Greens party, is a member of the coalition administration led by Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

As we approach winter, European leaders are advising citizens to conserve energy.
