PILOTS WITH LUFTHANSA IN GERMANY START A STRIKE

 

The airline has advised that disruptions may persist throughout the weekend after canceling 800 flights from Germany on Friday.

On Friday midnight, Lufthansa's pilots began a 24-hour strike that was scheduled.

As a result,800 flights were cancelled, affecting around 130.000 passengers.

The strike will have an impact on all Lufthansa flights leaving Germany on Friday, particularly those with large bases in Frankfurt and Munich.

Many German states are currently ending their summer vacations, which is causing inconvenience for many families.

In order to avoid the expected travel mayhem, passengers were encouraged to use the train or reschedule their flights for a different day.

The strike is not anticipated to have an impact on the subsidiaries of Lufthansa, including Swiss, Austrian, Brussels, and Eurowings. The corporation assured them that their timetable would go on as usual.

If aircraft and crews are already abroad, flights leaving from locations outside of Germany are anticipated to run on time.

The airline added that "isolated cancellations or delays" throughout the weekend were a conceivable.

After failing to reach a collective bargaining agreement with the airline, the pilots' organization Vereinigung Cockpit (VC) announced the strike on Thursday night.

In addition to automatic inflation increases for 2023, VC claims it is asking a 5.5% pay increase for its more than 5,000 pilots.

A "sobering and wasted chance" on the part of Lufthansa, according to spokeswoman Matthias Baier, who claimed they hadn't received a "adequate offer" on Thursday.

The deal that Lufthansa claimed the union rejected was described in detail earlier on Friday. The previous offer included a flat raise of €900 ($896) per employee.
