RELEASE OF THE REDACTED AFFIDAVIT FROM THE TRUMP RESIDENCE RAID

The Justice Department released the heavily redacted document used to persuade a US court to authorise the astonishing FBI search of former president Donald Trump's Florida property on Friday.

The Justice Department said that the judge's order to unseal the document with redactions was required to preserve an ongoing investigation regarding national security. Government lawyers had fought the release of the affidavit.

On August 8, FBI officers conducted a search at Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago home in Palm Beach, Florida, seizing boxes that contained numerous cartons of highly sensitive papers that Trump had refused to give over to the government despite numerous requests and a subpoena.

The unredacted affidavit's explanation of the department's investigation of Trump is probably in-depth, and it might even identify sources.

However, Justice Department claims that large number of the document had to be concealed "compellingly" were accepted by Judge Bruce Reinhart.

The federal court website crashed as a result of the feverish expectation around the publication of the redacted affidavit, which Reinhart had ordered to be made public by noon (1600 GMT) On Friday.

Justice department officials argued against releasing the document, claiming that doing so would need massive redactions that would strip the remaining unsealed language of any relevance.
