TO INCREASE ITS WORKFORCE, GERMANY WILL CREATE THE "GREEN CARD"

Germany wants to make its own version of a "green card" to help non-EU citizens find work because there aren't enough skilled workers in the country.

The Chancenkarte, which translates to "opportunity card," is the German government's attempt to address the country's severe labor crisis. Industry groups have been complaining for a while, and the Ministry of Labor has said that the lack of workers is slowing down economic growth.

As long as they meet at least three of these four requirements, foreign nationals will be given the chance to come to Germany to look for work under the new "opportunity card," which Labor Minister Hubertus Heil announced in the German media this week.

1) A professional or academic qualification

2) At least three years of professional experience

3) German language proficiency or prior residence

4) Younger than 35

The standards are comparable to those in Canada's points system, except that one has a more intricate weighting scheme. In discussions with the media this week, the minister from the center-left Social Democrats (SPD) highlighted that there would be restrictions and requirements. He said that the German government would limit the number of cards given out each year based on how many were needed on the job market.

"It's crucial to emphasize that those who possess the opportunity card may make a living while they are in this country since this is about qualified immigration, an unbureaucratic process," Heil said on Wednesday on the public radio station WDR.

According to Sowmya Thyagarajan, there are unquestionably some improvements here. She moved to Hamburg from India in 2016 to pursue her Ph.D. in aviation engineering. She is now the CEO of her own German company, Foviatech, which makes software to improve services in healthcare and transportation.
