TRUMP CONSENTS TO PROVIDE HOUSE DEMOCRATS WITH FINANCIAL INFORMATION
In order to share his financial documents, which he "tried for years to keep from Congress," former president Donald Trump reached an agreement with Democrats on a House Committee, according to the chairperson of the House Oversight and Reform Committee on Thursday.
Rep. Carolyn Maloney of New York said in a statement that the committee had finally achieved an agreement with the former president and his accounting firm, Mazars USA, after years of delay tactics These documents will enhance the Committee's investigations into former President Trump's despicable behaviour and ensure that future presidents do not abuse their positions of responsibility for personal gain" the committee stated.
The legal actions have continued past Trump's tenure in office and were sparked by testimony from Trump's former attorney Michael Cohen that detailed deceptive asset appraisals. Trump's accounting company received a subpoena from the Oversight Committee in April 2019 demanding access to the former president's financial records from the previous eight years. Trump, however, contested the subpoena, and the issue eventually reached the Supreme Court before being sent to a lower court in July 2020 for additional hearings. In a decision issued on July 8, 2022, the D.C. Circuit authorized the committee to request specific financial documents from Trump and his companies.

According to court documents, an agreement was reached on August 30. Trump has promised not to pursue a further appeal of the D.C. Circuit's decision and will abide by the court's order to deliver information "as swiftly as feasible," the committee stated.
