AS INTEREST IN THE FIFA WORLD CUP GROWS, AIR INDIA PLANS ADDITIONAL FLIGHTS TO THE UAE AND QATAR

The largest football event in the world is projected to draw almost 1.5 million spectators to Qatar.

DUBAI: As the FIFA World Cup fever culminates with the start of the quadrennial football event in November, Tata-owned Air India wants to provide more flights to the UAE and Qatar, according to UAE newspaper Gulf News.

The largest football event in the world is projected to draw over 1.5 million spectators to Qatar.

After the commencement of the winter schedule on October 22, the airline announced that it would add four weekly flights between Dubai and Kolkata.

Air India will send out its 12-seat business-class and 150-seat economy Airbus A320Neo single-aisle aircraft.

69 flights per week are currently being operated to Dubai.

When flight slots to the World Cup host are more obvious later this month, more frequencies to Qatar may be decided.

In honour of India's 75th Independence Day, Air India is presently offering discounted one-way rates for travellers leaving from its Gulf network. These seats are only available until August 21 and are good for travel until October 15 of this year.

In the meantime, as the domestic market continues to recover from the coronavirus pandemic, India's aviation authorities will begin to remove the ceilings on airfare in the nation on August 31.

In an order released on Wednesday, joint secretary for civil aviation Satyendra Kumar Mishra stated, "After reviewing the current status of scheduled domestic operations viz-a-viz passenger demand for air travel... it has been decided to remove the fare bands notified from time to time regarding airfares with effect from 31.08.2022."

However, he continued, "The airlines/operators shall make sure that the COVID-19 proper behaviour is severely enforced by them during the travel and that the recommendations to control the spread of COVID-19 are carefully adhered to.
