According to the rules set forth by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), restaurants, both large and small, will soon need to list the calorific content (in kcal per serving and serving size) next to the food items listed on the menu cards.

So, if you visit McDonald's and order a McVeggie, you may check the calorie count of your burger. Fans of butter chicken will also learn the number of calories in each serving once they pick up the menu.

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) made it essential for restaurant chains and online food aggregators to show the calorie count of food goods on menu cards as part of a significant initiative to regulate the calorie count of food products.

According to the new laws, eateries with central licenses or outlets at ten or more locations must list the "calorific value in kcal per serving and serving size" of food items on menu cards, booklets, or boards.

Inoshi Sharma, an FSSAI Compliance Officer, said the following to India Today: "People must be aware of what they are consuming. As with knowing what you are getting when buying clothes, vehicles, or furniture, one needs to be aware of the materials used in food goods if they want to be wealthy."
